A House Becomes A Home Again COCAA News: May 10th, 2010 ![]() Susan Clemens, a Pottawatomie County resident, proudly stands in front of her new wall heater unit. Susan heard about Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency's (COCAA) Weatherization program from a friend who had his home weatherized by COCAA. "I didn't think I would qualify and when I was approved I was so excited!" Her house survived being moved from Earlsboro to Tecumseh, 38 years and five kids and grandchildren later, it had lost insulation, window seals and some of its windows. The old house became increasingly colder as the winter wind blew through the walls and doors. Now, the house is warm again and Susan is very proud of her home. COCAA's Weatherization Team installed new sealing and attic insulation, a water heater blanket, replaced broken windows, added new doors and a new vented wall heater unit. "After that first day they sprayed insulation in my attic I could definitely feel a difference in the way my home held the heat from the day. The crew was wonderful. They were very respectful, hardworking and did an outstanding job. This has been a 'God-send' being that I am on a limited income. It was more than I had expected and I am so thankful to be one of the participants of this program." COCAA's Weatherization Team repairs an average of 32 houses a month throughout the six county area of central Oklahoma and educates residents on energy conservation. |
